Why Being REAL Matter to your career Guest: Dani Dyer Owner: Dani D. Fitness @Danidfitness1
REAL is defined as…. a substance or thing, not imitation or artificial: genuine.
How many time have you wanted to real on the job only to wind up putting on a mask or hiding behind how others expect you to act or even think.
Let’s face it. To be REAL on the job is not easy. On this edition of #CareerNotes Dani Dyer, owner of Dani D. Fitness, explains how a simple shift can make all the difference.
Dani Dyer: “I think there’s a sense of being afraid and being afraid of failure and that people try to do what everyone else is doing. They try to emulate, or they try to shadow and be under people and not really ever find their own realness to them and find what makes them different, then they kind sit on the surface.”
Dani started her our fitness company with a mission. To break the stereotype of what healthy looks like and the intention to guide clients to be the best version of themselves through positivity, movement, and good nutrition.
Dani Dyer: “(Real) was the one word that kept coming back to me. It was just like, if I’m truly about myself and I’m real and I’m transparent about my journey, others will take to that. Others will understand it. And people will want to work with that and be a part of that.”
Julia Bruck: “Do you think it’s something that we can lack as women as we start in our career? The feeling that we have to be something else that we’re not?”
Dani Dyer: “I know that I was always told that I would never be the best dancer because of my frame. I would never be a personal trainer because of my size or could be a personal trainer. I pretty much feel like I was always being put in a box, that’s what I always talk about, being put in this literal box and there is nowhere to go from there. Especially with being female, being young. People are always so surprised by what I do, and they don’t really understand it. But, that’s the beauty in it, is that because I’m real about it, they don’t have to understand it. They can either be a part of it and embrace it, or they are going to miss out.”
Fitness has not always been part of Dani’s life. As a teen she was unhealthy and self-conscious. Today she is a strong, independent and healthy woman focused on helping others change their situation and change their mindset. When it comes to being real, Dani says take a hard look and focus on what that truly matters to YOU.
Dani Dyer: “Is that with your career? Is that just with your personality? Are you putting a front for people? Maybe you are female or maybe you are young, and you feel like you have to act a certain way. But when you try to do something, you try and fail. You don’t accomplish it. So, when you’re real with it and you give it your all, there’s nothing that can stop you, except for other people’s nonsense. Once you’re real about it, it doesn’t matter.”
